Preston District getting ready for christmas

Missionary Monday 7th December 2015

Sister Peden and her companion and many other missionaries and members are in the area of extreme flooding in north west England and would appreciate you prayers to keep everyone safe and for opportunities to serve wherever they can.....

"Hi everyone, I hope you are all having a great week and that the
weather is better than here....... Merry Christmas, its that time of year. It is just wonderful, our Saviour came to the world to save us from sin.... We can have so much joy and happiness because of him even when it is cold outside, we have the lovely cosy warmth of his love always inside.

In putting my reading of the Book of Mormon and Christmas together here is my favourite scripture for this week

 Helaman Chapter 14: 2 -8

2And behold, he said unto them: Behold, I give unto you a sign; for
five years more cometh, and behold, then cometh the Son of God to redeem all those who shall believe on his name.
3 And behold, this will I give unto you for a sign at the time of his
coming; for behold, there shall be great lights in heaven, insomuch
that in the night before he cometh there shall be no darkness,
insomuch that it shall appear unto man as if it was day.
4 Therefore, there shall be one day and a night and a day, as if it
were one day and there were no night; and this shall be unto you for a sign; for ye shall know of the rising of the sun and also of its
setting; therefore they shall know of a surety that there shall be two
days and a night; nevertheless the night shall not be darkened; and it shall be the night before he is born.
5 And behold, there shall a new star arise, such an one as ye never have beheld; and this also shall be a sign unto you.
6 And behold this is not all, there shall be many signs and wonders in heaven
7 And it shall come to pass that ye shall all be amazed, and wonder, insomuch that ye shall fall to the earth.
8 And it shall come to pass that whosoever shall believe on the Son of God, the same shall have everlasting life.

I love how a night of no darkness only light was the sign of the light
of the world coming make so much sense.

Please send me your favourite Christmas scriptures. The best way to make this Christmas the best Christmas ever is to centre our thoughts on Christ after all we will put Christ back into Christmas.

From sister Peden have a great week every one xxxxxx

Missionary Monday 14th December 2015

"Hi everyone how are you all getting ready for Christmas the greatest time of the year when our saviour was born what greater reason to celebrate. I love Christmas, thank you for those of you who sent me you favourite Christmas scripture mine is

"11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord....
12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. "

I was there and so we're all of you singing and praising our God and rejoicing that our saviour was finally on the earth and as it Was said by Elder L Whitney Clayton at the Christmas devotional lasting fear if forever banished , our future has be secure this is the tidings of great joy. Merry Christmas every one
this week has been fun surviving the weather and trying to share a Christmas message its not easy but its the best thing I could be doing especially at this time of the year.

Also, if you haven't seen it, has a
fantastic video on it called "A Saviour is Born." Watch it!!! (Penny will post it for you)

I am sorry this is a very short email but know I love you all and hope you have a wonderful Christmas and the best Hogmanay ever

Missionary Monday 11th January 2016

Hi everyone how are you all doing I hope you are all managing to keep up the new year resolutions, I know I am struggling but it's not impossible 22 days to make a habit they say.

A lot of things have changed in the mission no more transfer meeting all exchange with...leader s will be in the leader's area so blitz instead of exchanges so that's fun , re study 12 weeks need to clarify that last one but all
go all fun .

More holiness give me more faith more trust more spiritual sighted
more ready for thee, in the scriptures there is unimaginable power,
strength , courage to stand and me what our loving father wants us to be as Howard w hunter asks …

How often do we think of the Saviour?
How deeply and how gratefully and how adoringly do we reflect on his life?
How central to our lives do we know him to be?

I like this lesson on Sunday I loved how I had the chance to really
look and see how much I really keep in remembers the saviour his life his teachings and what he did for me. Do I remember enough to change each day and as our wonderful recent convert said WWJD what would Jesus do.? Is this a question I ask ...

I feel this is a year full of changes lots of change we must tighten
our grip on the iron rod hold on faster take heed more to our leaders we are one year closer to the savour return are we ready "Behold he Cometh"

One of my favourite picture called a peaceful heart
Let's all call of a return to Christ and see how we can become closer to him that we may be ever watchful make ready if ye are prepared ye shall not fear
Virgin s where's your oil

I hope you all have a great week love you all Bye x

Burns Supper in Workington Ward

A wee sneak look at Sister Peden while serving in Workington, she had the honour of bringing in the haggis, addressing the haggis and sticking it to the haggis...... that's my girl.....thank you to all the wonderful people in Workington.

Missionary Monday 18th January 2016

"Hi everyone, how are you all. I hope you are surrounded by happiness .

This week has been a week of peace in more than one way but at the same time a week full of excitement and fun. Burns night was great, we sang and danced and I got the burn's poem wrong due to nerve 's but I got to stab the haggis which was fun, only 2 people noticed it was wrong, the rest, didn't have a clue what was going on so it was all good I guess but I felt silly ...... It was so nice that they moved burn's night party to before transfer s just in case I was moving.... really felt like I was home having a burns party.

I love them all, Workington is so great , I really feel at home here but I really feel it's time for me to move. I have been here a while and I am struggling to keep focused as, at the moment, we are just tracking due to damage from the floods lots of people don't want God which is really sad they don't want the one who could give them peace and joy and cares the most about them. sad well.. we will find those who will here his voice.

I am excited to start a fresh and change and rise to a higher level to be a consecrated missionary, I really like sister ulrich talk in the harvester (mission newsletter) I really want to always pray like that. I do sometimes but mostly when I am at my breaking point and I turn with desperation to my Heavenly Father but when I don't have that    this is what I need to work on. that and getting into the habit of prayer. I hope you have a great week

By the way:  quote from the harvester
That is what it means to stay on your knees until you “feel different.” To spin off a memorized prayer or mumble a quick message to God is not the same as:*Communicating in humility with God the Father in the name of His son, Jesus.*Having an exchange of love.*Sharing deep feelings of gratitude and need.*Cleansing your soul through confession*Pleading for forgiveness.*Witnessing your resolve to do better.*Praying for those who despitefully use you.*Asking for guidance to find people waiting to be taught. *Seeking understanding of gospel principles as recorded in the scriptures*Promising obedience.*Explaining your need for strength to endure.*Seeking understanding of gospel principles as recorded in the scriptures.Searching for ways to love others.*Crying out for confidence to do God’s will.*Desiring power to heal and bless. Yearning before God for peace on earth and holiness among men
I love you all and I hope you have a wonderful week. Keep up the great work

Missionary Monday 25th January 2016

"This week has been a bit crazy, going nuts packing just got everything to fit. It was crazy sitting on the suck bags trying to get every little bit of space I can and with out a transfer meeting we each pulled two very heavy suitcase and lifted them on and off two trains we then got a lift to the Y S A building in Manchester Piccadilly, took forever to find everything, looks the same where I met sister Wong (my new companion)... she is so sweet and kind and hard working always trying her best to do all she can I love her all ready just a fight to get her to talk to me so we will have to thing of some fun things to do together she is so quiet but she is getting there I need to work on going at her pace and not overwhelming her so we can work together I look forward to the amazing things we will do this transfer . I am very easily confused here at the moment but that just as its a new area I will settle in a week or so I already love the few members I met. there are many members here I will have to thing of a way to remember them .
My shoulder is still annoying but I am going to the doctor on Wednesday to see if they can do something so. We will see I am so excited about the temple trip tomorrow I love the temple and I am so glad we are able to go so often is a spiritual recharge a bigger boast than Sunday which is nice well I hope you have a good week sorry it's short this week but I love you all "

Missionary Monday 1st February 2016

"Hi everyone how are you, I hope you had a great week. This week has been up and down, trying to learn a new area is never easy and sister Wang struggles a lot with the language so we struggle to understand one another but are getting there. he is really sweet and kind and try's so hard, she is a sensitive soul who wants to help everyone and it hurts her a lot when people just don't want to be helped and she misses her trainer a lot. I I can learn so much from her, for I hope to change not just my behaviour but my very nature. I don't want to come home unchanged by the many wonderful experiences I have had and by the testimony I have developed.

This is a big ward slightly bigger than ours at home, so many people to learn and remember but the key to missionary work is the members. They all seem friendly and warm I am excited to get to know them better.

My first Sunday was ward conference and it was a great meeting. Our investigator family came, so that's wonderful, she is really nice I love them already. My second Sunday, we were able to talk more with the members and see how we can help. I have spoken with the bishop briefly but not as yet sat down with him and talked about how we can best help the members and him in his calling.

The temple trip was amazing. I love the feeling of peace that comes from the temple and feeling that amazing sense of being home and were I am meant to be, in my fathers house we were there for a while and missed the cafe for lunch so we went to the bookshop I ordered an EMM t shirt and I got a new notebook I was sent some the scripture stickers, they are great. I love them, I am able to see better where preach my gospel scriptures are and it's a nice way of marking also I have a list of go to scripture s this helps me reach out to other scriptures and widen my knowledge. Sister Wang seemed to like the ideas as when we were at the bookshop she picked up some hopefully they can help her too.
Last p day we went to Piccadilly to China town to get noodles I have been getting taught how to cook Chinese food, it's so good and not to hard to make lots of flavour.

I have also been to the G P this week and they are sending me to a MSK physician whatever that means ? I see him tomorrow so.... We will see ....
Um the best moment this week would be the temple I really love the temple and have grow to love it more and more I am grateful we can go so often .
The worst - crazy weather, tracking in the rain...... whoo whoo....
it's really a lot of fun ....and we will be blessed for it .

I have been so sleepy recently so I am trying to eat better, exercise better to try and get some more energy . I love you all so much be good and have lots of fun x

That's about the excitement this week have a wonderful week full of blessing and miracles bye"

Missionary Monday 8th February 2016

"Hi, hope you have all had a great week.

This week has had its ups and downs.

Down, sister Wong's health her back pain is getting worse she struggles to walk sometime then it eases and comes back worse, there is nothing I can do to help, so we rest at bus stops till she has the strength to keep going. This Sunday, she struggled a lot, we will call Sister Ulrich about getting a backpack for her which might help or at least make her pain bearable I wish there was something I could do to help. But this girl is a fighter and keeps going, She try's so hard to get better at the language and want to help everybody which is wonderful, I love her big heart, the bad thing about a big heart is that it gets broken a lot by those who just are not interested it's amazing to me to see how sad and upset she gets whenever someone say no to her I understand the logic but I just don't love random people like she can. I can grow to love them as I teach them but that's really it .

(the best thing) I am so grateful for Cleonice the chance to teach her even a little and to be there for her when she was baptised as she came out of the water with a big smile shaking, I put the towel around her she whispered, " I did it, I can't believe I did it" and cried. I couldn't help but give her a big hug and smile and reply "you did and you were great " It was amazing spirit that I will remember always. I am grateful to have been a part of her special day . I pray Ika and Melissa will follow shortly after . I love this family and I am grateful for the many potential investigators now investigators, we have been able to teach and share the gospel with I hope and pray that they will feel the truthfulness of what we say.

My health is ok except a non cooporative shoulder that will get a MRI on Thursday. yeah!
I love being a missionary and while being reminded of the shortness of time left I want to work harder than I have ever worked and to look back with confidence that I served my saviour well.

I have had a lot of curries and Chinese food as the members cater for
sister wang which is fun. The worst part is just the rain! It never

Today, we went to an all world buffet with half the zone which was
nice and tomorrow is zone meeting so fun fun. I love you all my
wonderful family and friends, that are the family I choose for myself, keep the faith and I wish you all happiness and good wishes love ya Sister Ruth Peden"

Missionary Monday 15th February 2016

"Hi everyone how are you all? What has been happening ? I hope you all had a great week full of fun things and reason to smile. This week was crazy.
Monday was nice we had a zone activity to go to, Peachy Keane, it's an all around the world buffet which was nice, we then travelled back and called by lots of potential investigators, not to much success ....sad, but oh well, people have there choice.

On Tuesday we had a really great zone meeting, lots of fun and I got to get to know some new people which was nice. When we got back we went to a tea appointment which was nice with the wife of the ward mission leader she is really nice and knows some friends of my family up north it's a small world,
On Wednesday, we went to get my new fancy bus pass, I can go on all the buses now yeah we then called by potential investigators and did some finding. We then had an appointment with Ika, Cleonice and Melisa about the importance of study prayer and making and keeping covenants. Melisa was then interviewed for baptism and did wonderfully but when we were told she would be baptised this week we were a bit concerned how the ward would take it. This is a great ward but the communications is terrible we had to keep changing the date till we found a good day for the baptism.

On Thursday we had weekly planning we had finished everything but inventory at 2pm despite the fact we didn't start till 11am much to my annoyance my Mri was changed from 2pm to 7pm the Jepson's were unable to help us that late so we had to cancel all our evening plans. We went out street contacting and at 4.30pm we left for the appointment we arrived at 7.05 and then they tell me they need a bank card what...?. I got the Mri I was so stressed though the whole thing.... it was so small I was trying to stay still, I was just like.... is this over yet it lasted 30 mins, we got home for 2140.

Friday Sister Wang really struggling we left the flat 10.30 to see a less active we then went to collect a package sent from my mum to sister Wang... its was a back brace which will hopefully help. We then had lunch and did an hour street display with the elders and I found a really nice lady named Toni we are seeing her again on Tuesday so that will be good we then had language study and went to a tea appointment got picked up by the doctor and talked with him, then saw Ika and family with bishop before going home,

Saturday was baptism preparation and a district activity as we had all had a rough week we all went to lunch together which was nice and refreshing before we came back and tried to do some finding it didn't last and we came home,
Sunday we called by some people and did an hour of tracking we had another baptism this week Cleonice younger sister was baptised. Melissa she is really sweet and enthusiastic about the church always so prepared for each lesson I love her dearly this is such a cute family hopeful there aunt will follow we can only hope and pray Melisa baptism went well I am so glad it was nice even though I was so worried it would be a shambles. It was lovely then church was great so really good lessons and comments made. Had a lunch appointment and language study ..... so yeah that's are week busy doing not to much but we are both so tired it was a hard week but great as well I hope you have a great week
I love you all I hope you have a great week bye"

Missionary Monday 23rd November 2015

Hi every one, this was a good week.

Jenny's baptism was beautiful, we arrived a bit earlier in order to have our dinner and for me to write the talk I was going to give at the baptism (talk about last minute prep, something never change) the dress was a bit big so I was in there with safety pins pining her together and talking her into taking off some of her jewellery before she went in.... she was so excited and I want to tell you what she said to me when she came out "it was like I wasn't standing in water I was being hugged by someone and surrounded by a feeling of love and peace I didn't want to come out "

I thought this was beautiful, from beginning to end the spirit had filled the room, it was amazing and when she got the gift of the Holy Ghost, she had to sit a minute and just said "wow" and shook everyone's hand she is really cute, an amazing two days.

This week I have learned that the Lord does his own work, he just lets us help every now and then and when we say " Father, I want to help thee more... he will give you that too but only what you can handle. He knows more of what you are made of than we do.

And he knows what he wants us to become. He will take us by the hand and walk with us one step at a time, after all we can do, all things with him no matter how hard it seems. Sister Nagy and I are doing well and yesterday you were right we did find a new investigator which was fun she seem nice she is just curious and said quite clearly that she would not be baptised but who really knows what the future holds, well the Lord does .the meeting at Manchester was really good I liked getting lots of very short hand notes so only I will really know what they say .

The Manchester meeting was really great I learnt I have change it slightly to make it applicable to all.

What is it you really DESIRE from your time here ?...
What do you want to ACHIEVE from this?....
What do you want to have BECOME?....
What are you REASONS ? Why ?..........
Ok now what are you WILLING TO DO?........
What are you willing to SACRAFICE for this?.....

Also I liked this quote from the talk he asked us to read called swallowed up in the will of the father by Neil a Maxwell

"Our desires thus precede our deeds and lie at the very cores of our souls, tilting us toward or away from God (see D&C 4:3). God can “educate our desires” Others seek to manipulate our desires. But it is we who form the desires, the “thoughts and intents of [our] hearts” (Mosiah 5:13).
Since the Most Innocent suffered the most, our own cries of “Why?” cannot match His. But we can utter the same submissive word “nevertheless ...” (Matt. 26:39).
In conclusion, the submission of one’s will is really the only uniquely personal thing we have to place on God’s altar. The many other things we “give,” brothers and sisters, are actually the things He has already given or loaned to us. However, when you and I finally submit ourselves, by letting our individual wills be swallowed up in God’s will, then we are really giving something to Him! It is the only possession which is truly ours to give!
Consecration thus constitutes the only unconditional surrender which is also a total victory!  Smiling face with open  face with open mouth and tightly closed  face with smiling  face with open mouth and smiling eyes

The Christmas lights are up In Workington they are so beautiful I love Christmas but it annoys me more than anything when people say Xmas
Bring back the Christ in Christmas !!!

Have a good week every one Love yous all
from sister Peden

Missionary Monday 16th November 2015

"Hi everyone how are you this week hope you are well things are progressing well here.

The best thing this week is when Jenny our miracle from last week accepted a baptism date she is so excited and is planning her baptism she asked people to speak she is an active participant in classes and asks us questions and has promised to stop smoking and changes teas just because she has felt at home here in Workington branch .I love these people and I am amaze...d at there faith an example to me we are preparing a baptism for the 28th Jenny was even looking at the baptismal clothing to check sizes and we are like hold on take you time there still things to teach you.

Tony was amazing and it breaks my heart to here he is struggling and Jenny is a high flying rocket still a little bit off my goal but with the appearance of Jenny coming out of nowhere I know that everything happen when the Lord Is ready I love being a missionary I know who I am I know my Lord God has a plan and I have been called to help him in his work what an honour and a privilege he is always by my side helping me though all things even the things that are scary he never gives up on me I will try to never let go of his hand is it not amazing the power of our God his love glorious.

The weather was crazy still is the past nine days hurricane has dance on us with the rain but even that wasn't a bad thing I love being a mission no bad thing this week our numbers are a bit low but nothing that can't be sorted with working just a bit harder. We also had amazing exchange sister harp came up to Workington which was nice to spent time with her I think she was surprised how long it takes to get back home from Lancaster but it was fun and we taught Jenny first lesson together it was a powerful lesson and her friend was there and took a Book of Mormon and asked question hopeful she will come to Jenny baptism .

Um it was nice getting to know sister harp better and making her a Scottish dish called stovies and her eating it for dinner and then breakfast so I guess she likes it . I feel a lot of peace this week which is nice sister Nagy is wonderful and has a lot of faith but seem to doubt herself I guess because a lot of people have answered her questions with you don't have the faith or make s her feel weaker I am amazed at what she can do I love this time with her I hope you enjoy you week .love you all smile always xxxxxxxxx

A wee story from Sister Peden's companion this week

"Then my companion is checking the train timetable as we decided to go in a new area called Silloth. We was running to catch the train...and as we Catch the train just in time as was about to leave without us....we manage to open the door and squeeze in. At the middle of the journey she said ....opsy...we are on the wrong direction.

We laugh and said...well...maybe we meant to be here. We got of...f on the next stop which was the last stop in our area called Aspetria. This is a little village with a very few houses. We started straight from the first house as we got out of the train station. On the third house we find a woman who loved to listen to us and was happy to say to us to come back. As was a rainy day...people here were very nice to us. Two of them wanted to invite us inside for a cup of tea
Turn out that was a great day and we had fun too the rain. "
