Paisley Stake Confrence 5th and 6th September 2009

We had the great pleasure of going to stake conference last weekend to hear from our local leaders to be uplifted and edified and it didn't fail to do so. red notes are ones that particularly struck me. I'm not a great note taker but I'm trying my best please bear with me.

Sunday Conference

Opening Prayer: Sister Fiona Corrigan

1st Speaker President Larry Hale
CS Lewis - feel without acting = acting without feeling
desires change during our lives things that seem important now, might not be important tomorrow however we can choose desires that will make a difference on our eternity.
  • desire to share the gospel and share my testimony
  • desire of loving parents to learn and study for eternal blessings
  • desire to go to the temple hold temple recommend and attend as much as possible

2nd Speaker Brother David Rae
Being a missionary after returning from a mission

3rd Speaker Sister Sandra McLaughlan
Laws of the gospel are a way for us to save ourselves and friends and family put righteous desires into practice

Doctrine and Covenants 139:7
desires of the heart requires WORK

heavenly father knows me that my desires my faith without action will not give me eternal progression

Honour thy father and thy mother how has the church influenced my life - standards taught by parents
5th Speaker Sister Griffiths
We are all angels with 1 wing we need to embrace each other in order to fly
we have many members but are of one body
members should have a care for each other

if we work together to grow the kingdom
share gospel with neighbours
where much is given much is required
follow Heavenly Fathers plan with agency and not Satan's its not up to us to make the decision on whether someone may or may not like to hear the gospel

reach out and rescue others in our lives

Serve with all your heart Moroni taught except you do it with real intent then it profit you nothing if you have a desire to serve you can be anxiously engaged The call to serve is a call to repent to put away worldly things and get into the flow.

feeling sustained gives people with the calling more energy and supported

do we have a picture of the temple in the center of our homes
set a goal for attending the temple and stick to it!
Those who are clean and pure will sit with the saviour when he comes

Boyd K Parker - Pray Fervently, put your house in order, keep faith and hope, determine to go to the temple.

The temple provides ordinances for our progression

Howard W Hunter - Hasten to the temple, do the work for the dead, safety and peace.

Go to the temple in a SPIRITUAL frame of mind - it takes a lifetime to learn lessons in the temple

Look for quality spiritual experiences

what we take home from the temple depends a great deal on what we put into it

Be anxiously engaged in a good cause - be prepared and attend the temple.

great blessings from the temple healing power In the Book Of Mormon Alma gave a cry of repentance to the people "Have ye received a mighty change of Heart"
can we look up at the lord with pure heart and clean hands
no man can be saved unless cleanses through the blood of the saviour
our homes and churches are sacred however they are no substitute for the temple

5th Speaker President Douglas Yates
What a joy it is to attend the temple with your family
Joseph Smith said we need the temple more than anything else.
Its a place of revelation however revelation is not imposed upon a person yo0u need a desire.
sometimes the 1st experience isn't what we expect GO BACK look beyond the symbol for the meaning
Howard W Hunter said look to the Temple of the Lord as a great symbol of our membership carry a current temple recommend
Is there a witness in our home that the greatest symbol is the temple
If we truly love the Lord why don't we visit him?
